Heidi Schreck to Write Live-Action She-Ra Series for Amazon MGM Studios

Amazon MGM Studios’ highly anticipated live-action She-Ra series has tapped renowned playwright and producer Heidi Schreck as its writer and executive producer. Schreck, best known for her Tony-nominated play “What the Constitution Means to Me,” will bring her expertise to this epic fantasy adaptation.

Variety exclusively reported that Schreck’s involvement marks a key step forward for the project, which was first announced in September 2021. This live-action adaptation will be a standalone story, distinct from DreamWorks Animation’s hit Netflix series “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.” Instead, the new version will feature a fresh take on the classic heroine, centering on an orphaned young woman who leads a revolution to save her planet from destruction.

Joining Schreck is director and executive producer Nicole Kassell, known for her work on “Watchmen” and “The Woodsman.” Robin Sweet, along with DreamWorks Animation, will also serve as executive producers on the project. Amazon MGM Studios is spearheading the production, with excitement growing around this fresh reimagining of a beloved 80s icon.

Schreck’s addition to the series elevates the expectations for the show. Her previous writing and producing credits include high-profile projects like “Billions,” “Nurse Jackie,” “Dispatches from Elsewhere,” and Amazon’s “I Love Dick.” While Schreck’s filmography covers a wide range of genres, her reputation for creating thought-provoking, character-driven narratives makes her a strong fit for the upcoming She-Ra series. Her play “What the Constitution Means to Me” earned her critical acclaim and two Tony Award nominations, with a filmed version available on Amazon Prime Video since 2020.

As of now, plot details remain sparse, but the show is expected to continue developing through Amazon MGM Studios, adding to the legacy of She-Ra, who remains a beloved figure in the fantasy and animation world. With Schreck at the helm and DreamWorks Animation supporting the project, fans can look forward to a dynamic and compelling new version of this iconic story.
